It is an absolute must for me to have a wedding reception that is outside. There’s such romance to a natural, outdoor setting and I love that a backyard is casual and uncontrived. Some additional benefits to a backyard wedding reception are that you can:
- Save heaps of money by not paying for a venue or overpriced, venue-mandated drinks and food
- Take as long as you want to set up and clean up
- Be ultra creative and hands-on in how you set everything up (for some, the latter might be a drawback… but not I, and not you, I suspect, if you are reading this post… but even then you could always hire an event coordinator to take care of the details!)
- I can’t say it enough: an outdoor reception is so much more lovely than being stuffed into one of those windowless convention-center-like rooms that so many receptions often end up in!
For me, the decorations are one of the most exciting parts about planning a backyard wedding reception. Perhaps I’ve watched too many of HGTV’s “Fixer Upper,” but the wannabe interior designer inside of me can’t wait to transform a space into something completely different and beautiful.
I would describe the style that I was going for as: minimalist, modern, elegant, and refined. Here are a few of my favorite budget-friendly reception ideas for like-minded brides:
