Yum, cocktails. Yum, champagne. I couldn’t dream up a better combo– makes Bey and Jay seem obsolete!
Most weddings have 2-3 signature cocktails, often a “his” and “hers” favorite (or “his” and “his, or “hers” and “hers!”). Side note: if you’re looking for more info on signature cocktails and how to set up your backyard wedding bar, see the post How to Plan the Ideal Bar. To save time and money, you will want to choose signature cocktails that are elegant yet uncomplicated– sorry, no egg whites. Champagne cocktails are not only simple and refreshing, but wildly popular at the moment. Yet no matter how into champagne cocktails your guests might be, there’s bound to be one or two from this list that your guests haven’t seen before. I capped these unique recipes at three ingredients or less…. okay, a couple have four if you include the garnish– but most have two ingredients that can be mixed together beforehand for easy serving. What’s more, some of the seemingly elusive ingredients in this post can all be found on Amazon! So without further ado, here are my collection of unique champagne cocktails for your backyard wedding.
1. Hearts and Raspberries
Let’s start with an ultra-simple and romantic recipe: this one will look extra fancy to your guests, but is a piece of cake to make.
- Muddled raspberries
- Sparkling wine
- Heart-shaped ice cubes, of course (on amazon)
This pink-toned, heart-shaped cocktail is perfect for the romantic’s signature cocktail. Just mush up some raspberries, put a spoonful at the bottom of the champagne flute, and add champagne and a <3.
2. Boreal Ridge: Lemongrass-vanilla
This sure is a unique cocktail (well, to those of us in the Western world). I absolutely love anything lemongrass, so I was already smitten when I saw this recipe. It requires one step of preparation before mixing the cocktails: you will need to add two teaspoons of vanilla to each 8 ounces of lemongrass syrup.
- 1/2 ounce lemongrass-vanilla syrup (purchase the lemongrass syrup and then add pure vanilla extract as mentioned above)
- 1/2 ounce lime juice
- Sparkling wine
And garnish with a lime peel.
3. Hibiscus flower-ginger
- Edible, rose-water-soaked wild hibiscus flower (uh, amazing)
- 1/2 ounce of ginger-flavored liqueur of your choice
Order a three-pack of these edible hibiscus flowers soaked in rose water on amazon (they also sell single jars or packs of two). You can get three jars, for a total of 45 flowers, for $30–not bad for a stunningly impressive wedding cocktail garnish. When you order, keep in mind that most people will probably return to the bar with their same glass and the flower still remaining, so you won’t always need one flower per drink.
4. Gin ROC (Rosemary-Orange-Champagne)
This champagne cocktails packs a little more punch with some added gin. Also, I love garnishing cocktails with rosemary– the more greenery at a wedding, the better, IMHO.
- Sparkling wine
- One ounce of gin
- Rosemary sprig
- Squeeze of orange juice
As if you needed more reason to add rosemary to your wedding cocktail– it is especially festive for winter weddings!
5. Blackberry Thyme Sparkler
More greenery! This time, it’s thyme.
- Half-ounce all natural blackberry simple syrup (on amazon)
- Sprig of thyme
- Optional: one ounce of gin or vodka
